How Does OSLER Works for MRCOG 3 Exam?

It uses a structured record, sometimes a questionnaire or a checklist, with specific criteria. RCOG uses it for evaluating different aspects of clinical encounters, such as history taking, physical examination, investigation, and management. So, if you are attempting MRCOG part 3, you will be using this to answer the questions.

Because this tool aims to improve objectivity, reliability, and standardization compared to traditional methods and has around 10 items including:

  • History Taking Skills (e.g. Thoroughness, Accuracy)
  • Physical Examination Skills (e.g. Technique, Findings)
  • Ability to Formulate a Differential Diagnosis
  • Clinical Acumen
  • Management Planning (e.g. Appropriate Investigations, Treatment)
  • Communication Skills

In addition to that, Examiners use a structured checklist to assess the student’s performance against specific criteria for each item. Thus, this scoring system (e.g. numerical or descriptive) is often used to quantify the student’s performance for each item.
