The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) is an internationally acknowledged entrance exam. Yes, it is conducted by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) every year. What are the Eligibility Criteria for the MDCAT Test 2025?

In 2025, the eligibility criteria are quite similar to the previous years. Following are the students who are eligible to appear in the MDCAT examination:  

  • Have completed their Intermediate (FSc Pre-Medical) or an equivalent qualification (e.g., A-Levels) with at least 55% marks.  
  • Students awaiting results or who have completed their secondary education.  
  • Pakistani nationals, Overseas Pakistanis, or Foreign Nationals  

 

Note: There is no age limit or gender restriction for attempting MDCAT.  

How to Pass the MDCAT Test in Pakistan?

Every intermediate student’s dream is to pass the MDCAT exam in the first go. But what do you think, can you pass the test without any preparation? No, right? Therefore, you should follow the following steps to score higher with less worry:  

a. Start Early & Stick to Your Plan

Making a study plan does sound fancy but sticking to it and being consistent is what reality is all about. So, you should start early and divide your time for each subject such as:  

  • Biology – 2 hours  
  • Physics – 2 hours  
  • Chemistry – 2 hours  
  • English – 1 hour  
  • Logical Reasoning – 30 minutes  

 

In this way, you can divide your 24 hours in the 8-8-8 method and follow it every day. You must sleep 8 hours to retain everything you have learned and study for the MDCAT test for 8 hours. The remaining 8 hours will go to mealtimes, breaks in between each subject, and also for any relaxing activity.  

b. Set a Study Area/Table

You should print all the notes and set all the helping materials along with the textbooks in one place. Do not place anything that may distract you, and have a comfortable space.   

c. Manage Stress & Stay Motivated

It might sound easy but managing the pre-MDCAT test anxiety is really difficult. Of course, it is vital to stay motivated and keep your nerves calm to perform better in the exam. You can do simple breathing techniques and have some fruits before proper meals to keep your nerves intact.  

d. Make Key Points to Revise Before MDCAT Test

Keep a separate notebook and write all the highlights or important points for your last-minute revision. Obviously, it is important to revise the MDCAT syllabus on a daily and weekly basis, too

What is the MDCAT test pattern and duration?

In 2025, the MDCAT examination has 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) divided as follows:  

  • 68 MCQs from Biology  
  • 56 MCQs from Chemistry  
  • 56 MCQs from Physics  
  • 20 MCQs from English  
  • 10 MCQs from Logical Reasoning  

 

Furthermore, all candidates are given 3.5 hours (210 minutes) to complete the test. Each correct answer earns 1 mark, and the amazing thing is there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.  

How many times can I appear for MDCAT?

The test is conducted only once a year but there is no limit to how many times you can attempt MDCAT. So, you can appear in the MDCAT test as many times as you want 

What are the passing criteria for MDCAT?

If you want to be eligible to apply to any government or private medical college, you must have the following score:  

  • 55% (110 out of 200) for admission into BDS degree 
  • 60% (120 out of 200) for admission into MBBS degree 

 

In order to be included in the aggregate list, passing with the above-mentioned marks is a must.  

What qualification is required for MDCAT?

For MDCAT test, all students must have passed their F.Sc (Pre-Medical) or shoudl have an equivalent degree. So, you should have at least 65% marks for MBBS programs or 55% marks for BDS programs in Pakistan.
